Thanksgiving + constipation=FAIL

Thanksgiving was a disaster! S was constipated and had been for 2 days. She screamed bloody murder the entire time we were at Chris's grandma's house for dinner. I literally scarfed down some food while his aunt held her and then hauled it back to Chris's parents house to help calm her down while everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving by eating and drinking outside with no baby screaming in their ear...it was lovely.
I ended up giving her some Karo syrup in water, but that didnt work. The next day I called the dr, who told me to give her a suppository and we finally had poop!! Thank GOD! I had to do it again the next day and then she was still having issues, so I gave her some milk of magnesia. She seems to be regular now, but let me tell you that a miserable baby makes mommy 3 times more miserable =/....
Now that we are over that, she is a happy happy baby. She is smiling more, laughing more and just getting cuter by the second! We are still working on rolling over. Last night she moved alot in her crib, so I think we are getting close! She will be 2 months next week!! I cant believe how fast she is growing!! She will be 16 before I know it!! YIKES!

1 Month...oh my!

I can't believe Savannah is already 1 month old! Holy crap, time flies! We went to her 1 month checkup on Wednesday and she weighs 9lbs 10oz and is 22 inches long! She is a growing girl! She has already grown out of 2 pairs of jammmies and 2 outfits =(. I have a feeling I will miss her being this little!!
We hit several milestones this week! She started "talking" this week! When we play on her playmat, she talks the whole time! She loves it! She also started sleeping through the night this week! I thought the first night was a fluke, but she has done it 3 nights in a row now! We will likely start putting her in her crib in the next few weeks. She can now sit in her Bumbo seat and hold her head up for the most part! She is such a strong girl! Mommy is so proud! It's amazing how fast they grow....this will probably be hard for mommy and daddy to accept!
Here are a few pics =).

Happy Halloween!!

Today is Savannah's 3 week birthday and Halloween! Her first Halloween has been spent sleeping, eating and pooping...wait...that is everyday =). Oh well, next year will be SO FUN! She did wear her strawberry costume all day without incident (a miracle!).

All is well here. We go to the dr tomorrow for a weight check and if she is past her birth weight, we can quit that icky formula!! Of course, I will have to ween her since she is used to being topped off after every breast feeding. I still dont have much of a milk supply, but it is getting better and I am doing several things to help.

Other than that, things are pretty much the same here...eat, sleep, poop and play. Life is good =). Savannah is a good baby at the moment...let's hope she stays that way!!

Birth Story

Well, Savannah will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and I finally have time to sit down and write this out...well, hopefully =)
My mom flew in on Tuesday, October 5th thinking that FOR SURE I would have delivered by then...nope. I worked from home the rest of the week and my poor mom sat at my house and cleaned, cooked, read the entire time....just waiting. Saturday evening, my friend, Jo Ann came over claiming that she could help induce labor. I was skeptical, but desperate, so I did everything she said. She made me some tea made with Cumin and I drank 3 cups of it while she gave me a belly massage to move the baby down. She left the house around 9pm and I went to bed. Around 2am, I woke up with some pretty strong braxton hicks and they continued and got stronger as the night went on. Around 6am, I got up and Chris and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. It was a REALLY slow walk and I had to stop every few minutes to breathe through my contractions. When we got back home, I ate some cheerios and sat on my birthing ball for a good hour. My contractions were about 4-5 min apart at this point, but not too painful. At 9am, I decided to lay back in bed because I was getting way too uncomfortable and about 15 min later, my water broke! I actually heard it and felt it pop in my belly!! It was SO WEIRD! Chris and I got to the hospital around 9.30 and once I was hooked up to the fetal monitor, my contractions were 1-2 min apart and REALLY strong. I never got a break to recover in between contractions, so my Dr. (who was on call that weekend!!!!) let me get an epidural even though I was only dilated to a 2. THANK GOD I did...wow...I felt a million times better and Chris and I were able to relax, watch some football and talk for the rest of the day. I progressed about 1cm/hour and by the time I was at a 5 I was put on oxygen and taken off of the pitocin because baby's heartrate would dip after every contraction. The oxygen seemed to help and since the pitocin was actually SLOWING down my contractions, I went from 5cm to 7cm in 30 min and then to 9cm 45 min later! I stayed at 9cm for another hour or so and baby's heartrate was dipping again =(. My Dr. came in around 8pm and we talked about our options. She said I could start pushing, but that baby was still really high and she was afraid that I would be pushing for a few hours with no progress. We decided that we didn't want to put any more stress on baby and went in for a c-section.
The c-section was scary, I wont lie. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest the whole time and I couldn't breathe. I felt like it took 5 hours, but Chris swears it was more like 5 minutes. Regardless, Savannah came out at 8.41pm and was absoultely beautiful!! I didn't get to hold her, but Chris did and he got to go with her to the transitional nursery. Recovering from a c-section with a newborn should be illegal. It's pure torture, but all worth it. Although her birth didn't go as planned, I am happy with how things went and wouldn't change a thing. I LOVE her and can't imagine our lives without her.

Waiting....

Now that all of our showers/shopping sprees/prep work is done, we are just in waiting mode! Baby S seems to be very content in there as I am still not dilated at all. We still have a little over a week until her due date, so for the time being, we are just enjoying these last few days as a child-less couple. Our lives are about to change forever and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Full Term Baby!

Baby S is offcially considered full term and is more than welcome to make an appearance any time now! We would like her to wait until at least next week as we are heading out of town for the weekend =).

The past few weeks have been super crazy busy at work and Baby S and I have had a few issues. 2 weeks ago the nurse called me to say there was some sugar in my urine and she scheduled me for another glucose test. Well, I failed it miserably. Tomorrow I am going in to do a 3 hour test. This will consist of me drinking a more concentrated fruity concoction and sitting in the waiting room for THREE HOURS as they take my blood every hour. If I fail this test, it means I have gestational diabetes and I will be closely monitored and/or put on insulin. In the mean time, doc cut out my 5 servings of fruit and my 1 sprite a day....who knew fruit would get me in so much trouble???! I might as well have been eating butterfinger blizzards and enjoying myself =/. Other than that, all is well and I am not dilated as of yet. I have lost 2lbs over the last 2 weeks, which is a miracle in itself considering I can now eat full meals! Let's hope this continues after S is born =).

This week is another week full of fun and showers!! Chris's work is throwing us a shower on Friday afternoon and then my sis flies in from Cali that same afternoon and we will drive up to Kilgore for another shower on Sunday!! I can't wait!!

Rod Ryan Pre-Labor Day Pregnant Bikini Contest!

Last night was the night! The contest started around 6.30 and the first event was the diaper changing contest. We had to unsnap the onsie, take the diaper off, put a new diaper on and re-snap the onsie. Your time dictated how many points out of 10 you got. I got 5 =/. I was the first to get the diaper on, but I was shaking so bad that I couldnt get the stupid onsie snapped!! D'oh!
The next event was a diaper throwing contest. We had 10 diapers and you got 1 point for each diaper you made into the trash can. Sounds easy right?? WRONG! The diapers are SO light and they had this huge fan blowing on us from behind! I got 1....BUT alot of girls didnt get any...so, not TOO bad...haha.
The final event was the bikini contest, worth 30 points. 10 points for grace, 10 points for overall look, and 10 points for the mommy "IT" factor. I dont know my score on this, but when I walked out, everyone started chanting "USA, USA, USA!"...it was awesome =). Rod Ryan couldn't believe my belly...haha, he was very facintated. He asked each one of us when and where the baby was conceived and we were told before the contest to be "crafty"...I am pretty sure each one of us lied. =)

It was a fun time. I didn't win, but I am glad Chris convinced me to do it and drug me out there. Here are some pics.

Lots of Excitement!

This week has been an exciting one! We had a growth ultrasound on Wednesday and S is looking good, head down, plenty of fluid and weighs approx. 5lbs 11oz! This puts her in the 68th percentile, which is a little bigger than average. If she gains 1/2lb a week (like they are supposed to at this point), it looks like we will have an 8lb-er! She was very stubborn for the photo session, so we didnt get very good pics, but we got a few face shots and the girl looks just like her daddy! I can't wait to see her outside of my belly!!

So, Chris has had this dream since the day we found out that I was pregnant that I would be able to compete in the Rod Ryan Pre-Labor Day Pregnant Bikini Contest. The moment I showed him the "pregnant" sign on the stick I could see the wheels spinning in his head. He was counting 9 months from that day (January 31st) and when he realized I would be due in early October, his face lit up and said "you can be in the Rod Ryan Pregnant Bikini Contest!!".....um...WHAT?! I just laughed and brushed it off thinking that he would forget all about it....well, he didn't. Once he heard the announcement on the radio, he was hard at work figuring out a way to get me in...and that he did. SO, next Thursday, September 2nd, my 35 week pregnant belly will be bare in front of way too many people in hopes of winning some fabulous baby prizes. I am in no way excited to do this, but I couldn't say no to him as he was VERY excited and worked so hard to get me in. The pictures will be all over the web, so I might as well post them on the blog next week when I get them. Let's all hope and pray that they at least give us all something for wearing a BIKINI while SO big and pregnant!!!!

Tomorrow is baby shower #2 and Sunday is baby shower #3!! I am so excited to see everyone! My mom is flying in today and staying the whole weekend! I haven't seen her since December, so I can't wait!

Here I am today....yes I am tan =). I insisted I get a spray tan if I was going to strut my stuff in a bikini.

S is a Honeydew Melon!

My Bump.com email today says Baby S is the size of a honeydew melon and that she may grow up to a full inch this week alone! We shall see a week from today how big she is and how much she weighs! I can't wait!

This week has been a rather emotional week for me. I am not the emotional type, but raging hormones will do it to anyone. Monday morning I got my rejection email from the Houston Marathon. As soon as I read it, tears welled up in my eyes. Chris didn't even know why, but he gave me a hug anyway...haha. Then when I handed him my phone, he understood. I love that race, it was my first half marathon, my first full marathon(that I finished even with an injury!) and the crowd support is the best I've seen (and I have run ALOT of races all around). I love the Houston Marathon and I have run in it for 4 years now. This year was the first year that they implemented the lottery system and it SUCKS. 22,000 participants were randomly selected to run and I was NOT one of them. What are the odds? I had a 76% chance of getting in, so the odds were in my favor! Good thing I don't gamble =/ My heart hurts that on January 30th (exactly a year after I found out I was pregnant), I will not be up at the crack of dawn in downtown Houston running through the crowded streets in my hometown.....but 22,000 other people will be!! Both of my running BFF's got in, 2 of my co-workers got in, a bajillion people on FB got in, why didn't I? I guess it's a sign that I am not supposed to run that day. Either way, I am not happy about it.

On a more exciting note, I am supposed to have my maternity pictures taken today, that is, if it isn't raining like it was on Monday when I was supposed to have them done. Right now it's a 50% chance....grrrr. If not today, then maybe Saturday morning. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

In the meantime, here is yet another beautiful cell phone pic in my office bathroom...SO professional =).

8 Months!

I can't think about carrying S for 8 more weeks....I am pretty miserable! I had a dr. appt yesterday and told her how uncomfortable I was and her response was "It's only going to get worse"...thanks Doc. My next appointment in 2 weeks is a growth ultrasound so I will finally know how big she is and how much she weighs.

On a more exciting note, my mom will be here in 2 weeks and I am having 2 showers that weekend!! Yay! I can't wait!!!

I don't have much to report on this week. Work is crazy busy and we still haven't found the right person to take my place! Talk about stressful!

Here I am today:

9 Weeks to go!!

Sounds so close right? I like speaking in weeks rather than months...it sounds better...haha.
This week I had my abdomial ultrasound to check for gallstones and it come back perfectly normal!! Thank God! I was dreading the strict low-fat diet and possible surgery after S arrives =/. Now I don't have to!
Chris and I took our all day lamaze class on Saturday and it was actually pretty fun. We learned alot (Chris even took notes!) and I got two awesome massages from him =). We also took a tour of the hospital and I am thrilled to learn that all of the labor and delivery rooms have jacuzzi tubs! Of course, they are only for use if you are not on any drugs. I am still undecided on the epidural.
This weekend we have two half day classes, so I am looking forward to those as well.
I can't believe it is already August! My mom is coming at the end of the month for my baby shower and I am counting down the days!!
Here I am today, looking totally ridiculous. A co-worker called me a toothpick stuck through an olive =).

30 Weeks!!!! OMG!

Wow...I know I say this alot, but this pregnancy is FLYING by! I can't imagine how fast time will fly once Savannah gets here =/
I had a Dr. appointment this morning. Heartbeat was great, blood pressure was great, there was some blood in my urine (which totally freaked me out!) so she gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. Apparently that is a sign of a UTI and Lord knows, I DON'T want another one of those! I also told her about the rib pain I have been having and once she noticed I was pointing to the right side, she wrote up an order for an abdominal ulstrasound to rule out gallstones...GREAT. She said it could also just be the position of the baby (let's pray this is the case).

I gained 5lbs this month (thanks to all the red meat Chris has been forcing down my throat) for a total of 13lbs.

The best part of my day is that I am having a 3D/4D Ultrasound tonight!!!! Woo hoo!! So, I will post pictures tomorrow =)

Stares and Comments

After I got home from the gym last night, I went to the bathroom and realized why I get so many stares....I am HUGE! 29 weeks today and 11 more to go, I am starting to wonder if my Dr. calculated everything right. Chris actually brought it up and said "Are you SURE they have your due date right?" Well, I am no rocket scientist, but I am pretty sure there is no possible way that I was pregnant 2 months earlier than I thought. Plus, they measure my belly every month and it's always right on track....
So, after a mini-meltdown last night about the comments I get about being SO BIG, Chris calmed me down by first explaining that they aren't saying that I am big, but that my baby is big and then by putting the blame on him =). He's right...HE is the big one...of course I am huge...I am carrying HIS child! And Good Lord, if we split the difference between his weight as a newborn and mine, we will have a good 9 pounder!
Just in case, I might ask the Dr. for a recalculation next week =). I will be going to the Dr. every 2 weeks from now on! I can't believe we are so close!
OH! I got my baby book in the mail this week and it is so.freaking.adorable!! She also included a different name plate. I think I like the cursive one better. What do you think?
