Happy Halloween!!

Today is Savannah's 3 week birthday and Halloween! Her first Halloween has been spent sleeping, eating and pooping...wait...that is everyday =). Oh well, next year will be SO FUN! She did wear her strawberry costume all day without incident (a miracle!).

All is well here. We go to the dr tomorrow for a weight check and if she is past her birth weight, we can quit that icky formula!! Of course, I will have to ween her since she is used to being topped off after every breast feeding. I still dont have much of a milk supply, but it is getting better and I am doing several things to help.

Other than that, things are pretty much the same here...eat, sleep, poop and play. Life is good =). Savannah is a good baby at the moment...let's hope she stays that way!!

Birth Story

Well, Savannah will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and I finally have time to sit down and write this out...well, hopefully =)
My mom flew in on Tuesday, October 5th thinking that FOR SURE I would have delivered by then...nope. I worked from home the rest of the week and my poor mom sat at my house and cleaned, cooked, read the entire time....just waiting. Saturday evening, my friend, Jo Ann came over claiming that she could help induce labor. I was skeptical, but desperate, so I did everything she said. She made me some tea made with Cumin and I drank 3 cups of it while she gave me a belly massage to move the baby down. She left the house around 9pm and I went to bed. Around 2am, I woke up with some pretty strong braxton hicks and they continued and got stronger as the night went on. Around 6am, I got up and Chris and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. It was a REALLY slow walk and I had to stop every few minutes to breathe through my contractions. When we got back home, I ate some cheerios and sat on my birthing ball for a good hour. My contractions were about 4-5 min apart at this point, but not too painful. At 9am, I decided to lay back in bed because I was getting way too uncomfortable and about 15 min later, my water broke! I actually heard it and felt it pop in my belly!! It was SO WEIRD! Chris and I got to the hospital around 9.30 and once I was hooked up to the fetal monitor, my contractions were 1-2 min apart and REALLY strong. I never got a break to recover in between contractions, so my Dr. (who was on call that weekend!!!!) let me get an epidural even though I was only dilated to a 2. THANK GOD I did...wow...I felt a million times better and Chris and I were able to relax, watch some football and talk for the rest of the day. I progressed about 1cm/hour and by the time I was at a 5 I was put on oxygen and taken off of the pitocin because baby's heartrate would dip after every contraction. The oxygen seemed to help and since the pitocin was actually SLOWING down my contractions, I went from 5cm to 7cm in 30 min and then to 9cm 45 min later! I stayed at 9cm for another hour or so and baby's heartrate was dipping again =(. My Dr. came in around 8pm and we talked about our options. She said I could start pushing, but that baby was still really high and she was afraid that I would be pushing for a few hours with no progress. We decided that we didn't want to put any more stress on baby and went in for a c-section.
The c-section was scary, I wont lie. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest the whole time and I couldn't breathe. I felt like it took 5 hours, but Chris swears it was more like 5 minutes. Regardless, Savannah came out at 8.41pm and was absoultely beautiful!! I didn't get to hold her, but Chris did and he got to go with her to the transitional nursery. Recovering from a c-section with a newborn should be illegal. It's pure torture, but all worth it. Although her birth didn't go as planned, I am happy with how things went and wouldn't change a thing. I LOVE her and can't imagine our lives without her.

Waiting....

Now that all of our showers/shopping sprees/prep work is done, we are just in waiting mode! Baby S seems to be very content in there as I am still not dilated at all. We still have a little over a week until her due date, so for the time being, we are just enjoying these last few days as a child-less couple. Our lives are about to change forever and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Full Term Baby!

Baby S is offcially considered full term and is more than welcome to make an appearance any time now! We would like her to wait until at least next week as we are heading out of town for the weekend =).

The past few weeks have been super crazy busy at work and Baby S and I have had a few issues. 2 weeks ago the nurse called me to say there was some sugar in my urine and she scheduled me for another glucose test. Well, I failed it miserably. Tomorrow I am going in to do a 3 hour test. This will consist of me drinking a more concentrated fruity concoction and sitting in the waiting room for THREE HOURS as they take my blood every hour. If I fail this test, it means I have gestational diabetes and I will be closely monitored and/or put on insulin. In the mean time, doc cut out my 5 servings of fruit and my 1 sprite a day....who knew fruit would get me in so much trouble???! I might as well have been eating butterfinger blizzards and enjoying myself =/. Other than that, all is well and I am not dilated as of yet. I have lost 2lbs over the last 2 weeks, which is a miracle in itself considering I can now eat full meals! Let's hope this continues after S is born =).

This week is another week full of fun and showers!! Chris's work is throwing us a shower on Friday afternoon and then my sis flies in from Cali that same afternoon and we will drive up to Kilgore for another shower on Sunday!! I can't wait!!

Here I am today:

Rod Ryan Pre-Labor Day Pregnant Bikini Contest!

Last night was the night! The contest started around 6.30 and the first event was the diaper changing contest. We had to unsnap the onsie, take the diaper off, put a new diaper on and re-snap the onsie. Your time dictated how many points out of 10 you got. I got 5 =/. I was the first to get the diaper on, but I was shaking so bad that I couldnt get the stupid onsie snapped!! D'oh!
The next event was a diaper throwing contest. We had 10 diapers and you got 1 point for each diaper you made into the trash can. Sounds easy right?? WRONG! The diapers are SO light and they had this huge fan blowing on us from behind! I got 1....BUT alot of girls didnt get any...so, not TOO bad...haha.
The final event was the bikini contest, worth 30 points. 10 points for grace, 10 points for overall look, and 10 points for the mommy "IT" factor. I dont know my score on this, but when I walked out, everyone started chanting "USA, USA, USA!"...it was awesome =). Rod Ryan couldn't believe my belly...haha, he was very facintated. He asked each one of us when and where the baby was conceived and we were told before the contest to be "crafty"...I am pretty sure each one of us lied. =)

It was a fun time. I didn't win, but I am glad Chris convinced me to do it and drug me out there. Here are some pics.
